No better actor to play 'Casanova' than Mohanlal?
Kerala: The name ‘Casanova’ conjures up so many images. Director Rosshan Andrews likes to think that there is no better actor than Superstar Mohanlal who can reprise the character of the legendary Venetian adventurer and author.
It’s the tagline attached to the historical womaniser that clinched the deal in favour of Lal for his latest movie, according to the director - the man who loves women and a man who is loved by all women.
“Is there any other actor who can pull off such a stylized Casanova act? I doubt,” says the director who has previously directed the superstar in two movies. The movie will have Mohanlal playing a large scale flower dealer, who believes in the power of love. He travels to different nations, romances different women and he loves them as much as they fall for him. "I think Mohanlal’s on screen flamboyant image goes superbly with this character," adds Andrews.
In fact for Andrews who started his career with the Mohanlal starrer, ‘Udayananu Tharam’ (which was later remade in Tamil and Hindi without much success), ‘Casanova’ took a pretty long time to make. It’s also one of his most expensive films till date made on a whooping budget of Rs 12 crores. Shot mostly in Dubai and Bangkok, the film also makes the entry of a new producer, Dr C J Roy of the Confident Group in Malayalam cinema.
Scripted by Bobby and Sanjay, who has earlier written Rosshan’s ‘Note Book’, the movie is not actually based on the Venetian adventurer though. "It’s a sleek romantic action thriller with many stylishly shot action sequences that cost us a fortune," says the director.
Though he "hardly enjoyed the process of making", Andrews is confident of the outcome and thinks he has given Mohanlal one of the best characters of his career. "Sure, it was a hassle what with even Lal getting agitated by the shooting delay owing to my penchant for perfection. But at the end of the day he knew I could give him a good product," offers Andrews who has always given the actor characters of substance, be it the reclusive assistant film director in ‘Udayananu Tharam’ or the passionate farmer in ‘Ividum Swargamanu’.
There is a long list of heroines to keep Mohanlal company, from Shriya Saran, Roma, Lakshmi Rai and a special appearance by Sameera Reddy. There are also actresses from different countries playing key roles in the film. The cast includes, Jagathy Sreekumar, Lalu Alex, Shankar, Riyaz Khan and debutantes Vikram, Abhishek, Shamsi and Arjun.
The crew consists of camera man Gim Ganesh, art director Sunil and costume designer Sai. The film is being distributed by Ashirvad through Max Lab
BEST HIT OF YEAR CASANOVA
THE BEST HIT OF THE YEAR CASANOVAA .The long wait is over.Casanovva, the Mohanlal starrer is all set to hit the screens on January 26, this year. This is the highest budgeted Malayalam movie, which is directed by Rosshan Andrews. This movie features the likes of Shriya, Roma, Sanjana, Lakshmi Rai, Dimple Rose. Alphonse, Gopi and Gowri Lakshmi have composed the music for the movie.
Casanovva was in the production process for more than two years. This film is targeted to get released in maximum number of screens across India, in order to retrieve the massive money invested. No doubt the stardom of the super star Mohanlal will make sure, it happens to be a mega opening on release.

Sanjay Dutt: Maanyata doesn't interfere with my work too much
The edit room of Dharma Productions, located in suburban Mumbai, is a chaotic place as journalists wait forSanjay Dutt to arrive. When he does, his towering presence in that crammed room brings a pause to the conversations.
In this interview with Ankur Pathak, Dutt talks about playing a villain in Karan Johar's upcoming revenge dramaAgneepath, how he is way past the stage where films help him grow as a person, and also why he would never allow his daughter to make a career in the movies.

The antagonist of Agneepath has risen to heroic fame. Tell us about the Voldemort-like Kancha Cheena.
He's a kind of villain never seen in Indian cinema. I have been in this industry for over 30 years and have come across all kinds of villains. They are all somewhat alike. They enter in one scene looking menacing but eventually, get bashed up by the hero. What sort of villain is that?
Kancha Cheena is a very unpredictable character. He has interpreted the Bhagwad Gita in a weird way of his own. All his decisions and moves are directly or indirectly influenced by that holy book. He is a very complex character who is exceedingly difficult to process. It's a brilliantly written character.
If you look at any Hollywood superhero films, their baddies are just too powerful. In fact, they are so overbearing, the good guy gets the beating almost throughout the film.
In fact, I see a lot of parallels between Kancha and The Joker from The Dark Knight. It's great that both Karan Johar (the producer) and Karan Malhotra (the director) have come up with a negative character that is so larger-than-life that defeating him towards the end makes the hero worthy of the title

will "NANBAN" repeat the magic of 3 IDOTS.
Will 'Nanban' repeat the magic of '3 Idiots'?
New Delhi: The interaction between the Hindi film industry and the Southern film industry has increased in last some years. 'Nanban', the official remake of Rajkumar Hirani's '3 Idiots' is the latest collaboration.
The inclination towards the social issues makes '3 Idiots' a difficult project to imitate. In fact one can entirely repeat the same storyline and dialogues but the soul of the film remains hidden in the core message. That's where the director Shankar will have to excel.
Shankar's last film was 'Enthiran' where he must have experienced the thrill of directing a larger than life superstar. This time too, he had three rather four big stars to handle. Shankar enjoys the back up of big studios and thus he can make film as per his choice but one thing that makes 'Nanban' distinct is its target audience
South India is known for meritorious engineering and medical students who sacrifice their lives to crack prestigious entrance tests. It's not that they don't make it big in their chosen fields but somehow the majority of the students do so just for the sake of doing it.
This crowd is completely different than what we see in 'Rockstar' or for that matter in most of the Bollywood films. Youths with designer clothes and funky hairstyles are easier to pick than trees in these films.
The strata of the society represented in these films have a different social reality. It would be an insensible thing to degrade their problem or downsizing the severity of their problematic issues but how many of the Indians have the privilege of falling in love and feeling the pain of heartbreaks?
Probably this is the reason why '3 Idiots' was accepted in all quarters of India. Multiplexes and shopping complexes have mushroomed in metropolitans and the younger generation has shown the guts to spend big money on the articles of leisure rather say luxuries. This has helped the PR professionals to understand the true nature of the consumers and subsequently forming a well directed strategy. Their lies the actual difference because from here onwards films start to carve distinct audience base.
The makers can't avoid the tons of expectations but 'Nanban' has one plus point that it has a fixed story which is already appreciated by the audiences. Now, it's up to the makers to encash the buzz 'Nanban' has generated before its release
SAMVRITHA TO BE MARRIED
Samvritha to enter wedlock
Popular Malayalam actress Samvrutha Sunil, who has acted in Tamil and Telugu films also, will enter wedlock later this year with Kozhikode-based Akhil, who is currently working as an engineer in California. Samvritha, who was part of many Malayalam movies, including some award winning ones, made her debut in Kollywood in the controversial movie 'Uyir'. She played the love interest of Srikanth in the film directed by Saami.
In Tollywood, she was seen in 'Evadaithye Naakenti'. The actress is the winner of some of the coveted honours like Asianet's Best Supporting Actress Award for 'Minnaminnikoottam' in 2008 and Best Character Actress Award for 'Cocktail' in 2010.
Sources close to her revealed, "Her marriage with Akhil has been fixed by elders in both the families. The engagement is set to take place soon during which the wedding date will be announced. A decision is yet to be taken on whether she will act or not post wedding."

mohanlal's casanova may delay
'Casanova' seems to be one movie in Mollywood, which has been associated with all forms of delays. The latest we hear is that, though the movie is continuing with its shoots in Dubai, the release of the movie may not happen as per its present schedules.
It is now planned for a late February release but may be even delayed further, as the shoot of its Bangkok portion is likely to get delayed. The current shoot schedule of the movie is expected to get over by this weekend.
But since Mohanlal has to complete his portions for 'Christian Brothers' scheduled for January, he will join the sets of this Joshy film after the first schedule of 'Casanova'.
Thereafter, he will be in another multi starrer 'China Town' with Dileep and Jayaram. Since both these movies are distributed by his own distribution firm 'Max Lab', Mohanlal is expected to complete these films, before he comes back to 'Casanova' at Bangkok
